Biology is the soul of the NEET exam. With 90 questions out of 180 coming from Biology alone, scoring well in the biology section can make or break your NEET rank. A candidate with strong conceptual understanding and clarity has the best chance of earning the highest possible score in biology. Appolo Academy has been a top NEET coaching centre in Chennai for years, so we have firsthand experience with what works and what doesn’t. So, in this blog, we’re going to share tried-and-tested hacks that have helped thousands of students not just prepare for NEET Biology, but master it.
Start with NCERT – Master It Like a Pro
If you’ve heard it once, you’ve probably heard it a hundred times — NCERT is the Bible for NEET Biology. And that’s not an exaggeration. About 85-90% of NEET Biology questions come directly or indirectly from NCERT. So, Candidates need to go through NEET Biology Syllabus Very Carefully.
Here’s how to use NCERT smartly:
- Read every chapter line by line — and don’t just read, understand.
- Make short notes alongside each topic. Write down tricky points or things you often forget.
- Focus on diagrams — many NEET questions are based purely on labelled diagrams from NCERT.
- Highlight important points and facts. Repetition makes it stick.
Create a Realistic Study Schedule
Random studying is one of the biggest traps NEET aspirants fall into. Instead, create a weekly schedule — and make sure it’s realistic. Biology shouldn’t be crowded into one day. Instead:
- Study Biology daily — even if it’s just for 1–2 hours.
- Break chapters into small chunks. Studying “Plant Physiology” as one unit can feel heavy, but dividing it into “Photosynthesis,” “Respiration,” etc., makes it easier.
- Mix theory with diagrams and MCQ practice so you don’t get bored.
At Appolo Academy, our students use a 3:2:1 method – 3 days for reading and notes, 2 days for MCQ practice, and 1 day for revision and test.
Mind Maps and Flashcards – Your Memory Boosters
Biology is full of facts, processes, cycles, and classifications. Don’t try to rote learn everything. Instead, make it visual.
- Mind maps are great for topics like Human Physiology, Genetics, and Ecology. They help you see the entire chapter at a glance.
- Flashcards work wonders for memory-based content – think Scientific Names, Enzymes, Plant Hormones, etc.
- Mnemonics are perfect for recalling complex sequences or lists – think Taxonomic Hierarchy, Cranial Nerves, Photosynthesis Steps, or the Functions of the Endocrine Glands.
You can use Flashcards, Mnemonics, Mind Maps, or simply make DIY cards for quick revision. Spend 10-15 minutes a day going through them — especially before bed.
Previous Year Questions (PYQs) Are Gold
Once you’re comfortable with a chapter, start solving previous year NEET questions from that topic. This helps you understand:
- What kind of questions are asked
- Which areas are most frequently tested
- How questions are framed from simple NCERT lines
Make a PYQ notebook where you collect questions that you got wrong or found tricky. This becomes a goldmine during revision!
Mock Tests – Simulate the Real Game
No matter how much you study, if you panic on exam day or mismanage your time, it’s all in vain. That’s why mock tests are non-negotiable.
- Start taking mock tests once you complete 60–70% of your syllabus.
- Analyze your mistakes immediately after the test. Ask yourself: Was it a silly error or a concept I didn’t understand?
- Track your improvement. At Appolo Academy, we recommend at least 2 full-length mocks per week in the last 3 months before NEET.
The more tests you take, the more confident and calm you’ll be on D-day.
Don’t Ignore the “Easy-Looking” Chapters
Chapters like “Biomolecules,” “Ecology,” “Biotechnology,” and “Strategies for Enhancement” are often taken lightly. But NEET loves to pick 1–2 tricky questions from these areas to trip students up.
So instead of just focusing on big chapters like Human Physiology or Genetics, make sure your foundation is strong across the board. Even one extra correct Biology question can push your rank up by hundreds.
Stay Consistent, Not Perfect
Some days will be tough. You’ll forget things you just studied. You’ll get low scores in mocks. You’ll feel like giving up. And that’s okay.
The key is not to be perfect every day – it’s to be consistent. Even if you feel stuck, study for just 30 minutes. Revise flashcards. Watch a video explanation. Do something.
Remember, Biology is not just about intelligence – it’s about persistence. Keep going. Keep revising. Trust the process.
Every topper was once a confused student just like you. What set them apart wasn’t luck – it was consistency, smart planning, and the right guidance.
At Appolo Academy, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Our expert faculty, focused study plans, and real-time progress tracking ensure you stay on the path to success.
So breathe. Trust yourself. Follow these hacks. And get ready to face the NEET Biology section like a champion!
